Eicher tractor company history in India & current status:
Eicher tractor brand name in India needs no introduction since last 50-55 years because Eicher’s single cylinder tractor is the backbone of all types farmers in India and it is the first choice of small scale farmers in all parts of India. Brand has very long and vast history of innovations and hark work but here we will discuss only about the Indian history part.
In year 1948 when Eicher introduced its world first air cooled self made engine in their 16 hp tractor and launched in German agriculture market then it became a game changer for Eicher tractor company. At the same time India got independence from british rule and there was a new beginning of country towards growth and development, but India had not so much of technology in any section and same thing in field of agriculture, then Government of India allowed people to import tractors from other countries. A large of number of tractors were imported from Germany, England, Russia and Czechoslovakia. Most of tractors were too expensive for farmers at that time but there was one model which was in less expensive as compared to all others tractor models at that time and it was Eicher’s 26 hp single cylinder air cooled tractor with combination of sky blue and red color. In very short time it became the leader of tractor market because this tractor has very low fuel consumption, extremely low maintenance and good power & torque. These two things were the main need of farmers.
Eicher ED model owner’s love for tractor
Due to this reason demand of Eicher tractors increased suddenly and Goodearth company was established in India in year 1948 for sale and import of Eicher tractors in India. After that about more than 1500 tractors very imported in India till year 1959. After that in year 1970 import of tractors in India was banned and Eicher tractors were produced in India under a joint venture with Goodearth company (i.e. Eicher set up the Eicher Tractor Corporation of India Private Ltd. with Goodearth) and there was a badge name on tractor i.e. Eicher Goodearth. Color scheme of tractors were changed i.e. Germany there was sky blue & red color combination but Indian manufactured tractor have whole body red color and grey black on engine & transmission. Many other models were produced in this time period.
Before the beginning of year 2000 Eicher tractors were produced under name of Eicher, Euro power and Eicher Valtra and later in year 2005 TAFE group completely bought Eicher company and a production plant was set up in Chennai. Later TAFE manufactured many models for Indian market and even today Eicher tractors are manufactured under TAFE group. At different times company launched different models.

In year 1948 Goodearth company was set for the import, sales and service of Eicher tractors Germany. And in year 1949 import of Eicher tractors started.
The first Eicher model in India was 1 cylinder air cooled blue colored tractor i.e. Eicher ED 24 ( may be any other model of Eicher ED series).
Eicher company’s air cooled tractors were very reliable, low maintenance, have low fuel consumption and were heavy duty tractors.
No, production of Goodearth model was discontinued because TAFE company had acquired the whole Eicher tractor company.
